The MarCum LX-3TC is a high-tech ice fishing system that competes with the Humminbird ICE series. It’s a conventional flasher with a dial as the main display, which displays SONAR returns – darker colors represent stronger returns (rocks, floor), and lighter colors represent weaker returns (fish, plants).
The LX-3TC is a single beam flashlight with a TrueColor display, which means that it has three sets of lights: one for each color, resulting in a more visible image even under bright sunlight. This comes in handy especially during the winter season when snow and ice reflect light, making it particularly difficult to see things.
The beam is 20 degrees, which is enough for ice fishing, and the transducer works well down to a depth of 20 to 30 feet. You’ll be able to manage if you go deeper than that, but with a dual beam transducer, you’ll get much better performance. The LX-3TCs bigger brother, the LX-5, features a dual beam transducer.
You can also zoom the display to focus on a specific location, so you don’t have to view the entire 20 or 30 feet of water column. Depending on where your target fish are swimming around, you may choose to focus on the top few feet, middle few feet, or bottom few feet.
The SU800 has a peak power rating of 2000 watts, and target separation of as precise as 2 inches is possible.
The Flasher comes with a 12 volt, 9 amp battery and is delivered in a soft padded case that can be carried on the ice. A snow-protection faceplate is also included, as well as a manufacturer’s 2-year warranty.
